Belthangady: An elderly parents of a soldier living in Manigeri Kayarthadka of Kelenja village have been facing life threats from miscreants after a road dispute was created by a section of villagers. On Saturday the miscreants crossed all limits and cut off the fence around the house of the elderly couple and then issued life threat to them.
Phillip and Rosly have been living in this remote village of Belthangady while their son Thomas guarding the nation in Kashmir. However, when Thomas could not be with his parents in person, he spoke about the problems faced by his parents to Belthangady Taluk Ex-Servicemen’s Association President Gopalkrishna Kanchodi. Soon, the issue was brought to the notice of District Superintendent of Police through MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik.
Acting instantly, cases were registered against five persons with the Dharmasthala Police for damaging the property of the soldier’s house and also issuing life threats.
It is said that though the village needed three ft of land to make a road to provide connectivity to the houses near Phillip’s house, he was generous enough to give away 13 ft of his own land for the sake of the villagers. This generosity act is established by the documents that are in possession of Phillip. However, a section of people in the village have been trying to convert the 13 ft road into a Panchayat road. On Saturday a board stating that it is a Panchayat road was installed near the road. They had also pulled down the fence on Phillip’s property, says the complaint to the police.
On Sunday Dharmasthala police visited the spot and also made sure that the fence that was damaged was set right immediately.
The issue has been taken seriously by MLC Vasanth Bangera too who has expressed his full support to the generous family members of the soldier.
