Mangaluru: ‘Beeg Ani Beegath’, a collection of short stories in Konkani authored by well-known Konkani writer, journalist and critic H M Pernal has bagged the prestigious Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Best Konkani Book Award for the year 2018.
Konkani poet Sharathchandra Shenoy from Kochi, Kerala has won Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Best Konkani Poetry Award for his book ‘Idam Na Mama’. Vishwanath M Shet from Uttara Kannada has bagged Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Lifetime Achievement Award.
Each award carries a purse of Rs 1 lac each, certificate, momento and shawl. The award will be presented in Mangaluru on 18 November at T V Ramana Pai Hall in the presence of sponsor of the awards, T V Mohandas Pai, said a press release from World Konkani Centre.
Henry M Mendonca uses pen name ‘H M Pernal’. A native of Pernal in Udupi district, he lives in Mangaluru now with his family. ‘Beeg Ani Beegath’ is the second short story collection by H M Pernal after ‘Devak Sodullo Pado’ published in 2002.
‘Beeg Ani Beegath’ is a collection 12 short stories written by H M Pernal which are set in Mumbai city that effectively depict the difficulties and woes of the people in cosmopolitan life.
Apart from short stories collections, H M Pernal has published three collections of poetry title ‘Chalyank Chatrai’ (1999), ‘Koydhyacho Kavitaa’ (2004) and ‘Bhamunachem Chedu’ (2006). He has also written several articles and critiques.
H M Pernal is the publisher and editor of Konkani literary website www.kittall.com and publisher of ‘Arso’ magazine, both published from Mangaluru.
