Mangaluru: In a late-night development, authorities apprehended Balamanjunath Swamiji, the head of Vidya Chowdeshwari Mutt in Hangarahalli, Kunigal taluk. Swamiji and his associate Abhilash have been taken into custody in connection with a POCSO case, following allegations of sexual harassment involving a minor girl within the mutt premises.

Earlier, on February 10, Swamiji lodged a complaint with the Tumkur Cyber Police Station, alleging coercion into a compromising situation under the guise of medical treatment, followed by threats and extortion demands. Swamiji also registered an FIR regarding the incident, naming a total of six individuals, including Abhilash, accused of intimidation and monetary extortion.

Subsequently, the police received information alleging Swamiji’s involvement in the sexual harassment case. Acting on this tip-off, authorities conducted a late-night inspection at the Mutt, during which Swamiji’s true identity was unveiled.

As a result of the investigation, a POCSO case has been lodged against Balamanjunath Swamiji and his associate Abhilash at Huliyurdurga Police Station. The arrests were made late at night, and police inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
