Residents of Adyar Kannur and Thumbe areas faced health issues after consuming tender coconut water purchased from the Bonda Factory of Lands Flavor in Adyar. On Monday, April 8, residents bought the coconut water, but by the following day, they experienced vomiting and diarrhea.
Sold at Rs 40 per liter, the tender coconut water became a suspected cause of the reported health problems. Many individuals who consumed it suffered from vomiting since Tuesday. Despite initial treatment from local doctors, three patients required admission to Highland Hospital, while 12 others are currently undergoing treatment at Fr Mullers and other hospitals.
In response to these incidents, a complaint was lodged with the District Health Officer and the District Food Safety Officer via WhatsApp on Wednesday. Prompt action ensued as both officials visited the Bonda factory in Adyar, collecting samples of the raw tender coconut water for laboratory analysis.
As a precautionary measure, the entire factory underwent temporary closure for thorough cleaning. Furthermore, health and food safety officials visited registered inpatients at Highland Hospital in Falnir on Wednesday. They gathered health information and consulted attending physicians to ensure appropriate measures were implemented to safeguard public health.
