Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor Kavitha Sanil on Friday urged general public to participate in the Swacha Survekshana-2018 survey organised by the Union Ministry of Urban Development.
Addressing a press meet at the MCC here on Friday, November 3, the Mayor said, “The Union Ministry of Urban Development has included 4014 towns in Swachha Survekshana-2018 programme. In the Swach Surveshana-2017, 27 cities from the state had participated and MCC has secured 63 rank. To make the MCC top the list in the survey, we need massive public response.”
“To address the issues related to solid waste management in the city public must download the MCC’s ‘Swachataha App’ released in the year 2016. The total points for the Swachha Surveshana-2018 is 4000. Negative marking too are part of the survey,” she said.
MCC Commissioner Nazir said that there is a proposal to select theater and film actor Naveen D Padil as brand ambassador for Swachha Survekshana-2018 in the city. He added that MCC has already started to repair the toilets in the city which are not functioning. He urged citizens to segregate the household waste into wet and dry waste. “Instead of storing the waste in plastic bags people should use separate bins for wet and dry waste,” he added.
He also said that the MCC will impose fine in those who throw solid waste on the streets.
