Kasaragod: The heritage museum maintained by District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) is taking strides in developing infrastructure to preserve items of archeological importance. The zilla panchyat of Kasaragod consented to provide funds to the tune of Rs 30 lakhs during financial year 2015-16 towards the development and expansion of the museum.
The museum started operating in DIET premises 5 years ago with the support of teachers, students and general public.
In the beginning, relics and artifacts were collected from various parts of the district. Family members of Late Pushpagathan from Pallikere, Alakode donated several artifacts to the museum which then shot into prominence. The museum those days was operated from a temporary structure which was unsafe for operations. The recent funding by the zilla panchayat has brought a new lease of life to the museum.
The renovated museum will show case the district’s history and culture in the newly built 10 rooms. The museum will house all items of archeological importance. Various lamps, stone carvings, decorative articles, sculptures, potteries, hunting equipments, clay sculptures, clocks, toys, measurement utensils, toys and other interesting artifacts will be kept on display.
The renovation efforts are being guided by DIET Principal PV Krishnakumar and Lecturer P Bhaskran. The heritage museum will definitely provide an opportunity for all history lovers and researchers an insight into the district’s rich heritage and past glory
