Mangaluru: A postgraduate student of Mangalore University, who was suspended by the University for allegedly planting a camera inside ladies toilet of the campus was granted permission by the state high court (HC) to appear for the semester examination.
Accused Santosh had approached the court seeking permission to appear for the examination.
The division bench of the high court after hearing the petition filed by the vice chancellor of Mangalore University asked the university to permit Santosh to take up his examination. At the same time, it prohibited the university from publishing his results until the appeal is decided.
The advocate appearing for the university has sought a stay order against the single judge bench order that had allowed Santhosh to write the examination and had quoted lack of attendance to substantiate his claim.
The senior advocate who argued on behalf of the petitioner held the university responsible for not giving an opportunity to Santhosh to explain his position and also pleaded to consider the future of the student.
It may be recalled, Santosh, a post graduate student at the University and resident of Sullia, was accused of installing a camera inside the toilet block meant for girl students. The incident had come to light after a girl student noticed the device. Based on her complaint to the registrar about the presence of the camera, university management had filed a police complaint.
