Mangalore: Union Minister for Skill Development Ananth Kumar Hegde, who recently hit headlines with his infamous ‘change the constitution’ remark, has made yet another remark, which can be perceived in ways more than one.
Addressing a gathering at Vajradehi Math in Gurupura, on outskirts of the city on Thursday, Hegde called upon Hindus to return to their tradition of worshiping ‘Shakthi’ or power.
“We(Hindus) are essentially the worshippers of Goddess Shakthi-the eternal source of energy and power. Worship of Shakthi has become all the more relevant in today’s turbulent times when we (Hindus) are faced with so many challenges,” he said elaborating that no Hindu deity is ever seen with folded or bare hands.
“Our deities hold several weapons in their hands, ” he said.
Earlier, he was accorded a warm welcome by the mutt seer Rajashekharananda Swamiji who later felicitated him at a stage programme here.
BJP leaders Sathyajith Surthkal, Dr Y Bharath Shetty were present.
