Mangaluru: The Hindu Jaganarana Vedike President Jagadish Karanth who was arrested on September 30, was granted bail by a court in Puttur on the same night.
Karanth was arrested from Bengaluru airport after cops registered a First Information Report(FIR) against him for offensive statement against Puttur PSI.
Karanth was arrested and brought to Puttur on Friday and was produced before the court. The court after the hearing, granted him bail for four days and asked him to appear before the court on October 3.
Following Karanth’s arrest, tense situation prevailed in Puttur with his supporters resorting to stone pelting and protest.
It may recalled that Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy during his recent visit to Mangaluru, had ordered to register a case against Karanth for hate speech. At a Hindu convention organised at Puttur’s Kille Maidan on September 15, Jagadish Karanth had made a provocative speech abusing Sampya Police Sub-Inspector Khadar.
