Mangaluru: The Hindustan Petroleum corporation limited’s (HPCL) gas pipeline connecting Coastal Mangaluru and state capital Bangalore has become operational in the Dakshina Kannada stretch covering 95 kilometers.
According to a notification from the Deputy Commissioner’s office the land acquisition and installation of pipes along the 95 kilometer stretch in the district has been successfully completed. The LPG (Liquid Petroleum project) pumping operations began on October 23 and are continuing smoothly.
The district administration has thanked the public, farmers in special for their support in the execution of the LPG pipe line project and has sought further cooperation in the smooth functioning of the pipeline.
Since pumping has started in the 95 km stretch, the number of tankers are likely to decline and the district administration hopes the highways to be relatively free from traffic and dangerous accidents in the near future involving LPG tankers.
