Mangaluru: The heavy rains currently pounding the city, are leaving a trail of destruction behind on Tuesday, May 29. People in the city were inconvenienced as city’s infrastructure could not handle the incessant rainfall and many parts of the city were water logged. As the heavy downpour continued, a compound wall came crashing in the upscale locality in Shivabagh.
In the afternoon, the huge compound wall of the house “Ashiyana” collapsed. The debris blocked the Kadri Road near the Jimmy’s Supermarket that leads to Shivabagh road.
A local who witnessed the incident said that the people in the locality heard a loud thud during lunch time. “When we rushed outside, the compound wall had collapsed under the strain of the heavy downpour in the morning”, he said. However, there were no people around this otherwise busy road as people stayed inside due to the heavy rainfall. Thus, a tragedy was averted.
Locals also alleged that the soil under the compound was loose after the road construction. They blamed the shabby work done by the public authorities for the wall collapse.
