Mangaluru: In a rather controversial statement, JD(S)’s S L Bhoje Gowda, MLC for South West Teachers’ Constituency, said that the humiliating defeat suffered by the Congress party in the coastal region was the result of neglecting the Hindus.

Addressing a press meet at the Circuit House here, Bhoje Gowda said, “The JD(S) party will strengthen its footprint in the coastal region. I urge the JD(S) party workers to contemplate on the defeat of the Congress in the coast, and not resort to appeasement politics. Everyone needs to be treated equally in order to strengthen the party. Polarization for votes led to the defeat of the Congress in the coastal region, though they were in power for five years in the state.”

He also attributed his win to the conscious voters of the South West Teachers’ Constituency.

Further, he said that Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has assured that he would hold a meeting with Karnataka Higher Education Minister GT Deve Gowda and the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education of Karnataka in order to resolve the various problems faced by the teachers in the constituency.

Responding to queries, Bhoje Gowda said that the JD(S) is an independent party. We will never interfere in the party affairs of the Congress nor does the Congress meddle in the JD(S) party organisation. As a coalition government, both parties work together in the administration, he said.

Bhoje Gowda also said that he has written to the Deputy Commissioner to provide office space for him in the DC’s office.

“Mangaluru will be the centre for all districts and it is an educational hub, I have decided to open an office here in the city,” he informed.
