Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district unit of United Muslim Organization has alleged that police have framed innocent youth in various criminal cases including the murder case of rightwing activist Prashanth Poojary.
Addressing a media conference on Saturday December 26, former mayor and President of the organization Ashraf said that cases have been filed against 17 and 10 of them have already been arrested in the murder case of flower vendor Prashanth Poojary, while it is strongly believed that only six men were involved in the murder. As many as six innocents have been booked in an attempt to murder case at Kavoor station, while another 18 have been booked in two similar cases in Bajpe police limits.
He said that as Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Panambur sub-division Madan Gaonkar is on the verge of retirement, he wants to portray that he has solved all cases in his limits adding he is doing this in anticipation of award and appreciation from the Police Department.
Ashraf said that since the police are unable to trace the real culprits, they are been framing innocents by pressurizing them and meting out third degree treatment. He also expressed displeasure for not arresting other accused in the Harish Poojary murder case.
Tahul, brother of Mustafa, one of the accused in the Prashanth Poojary murder case said that the police asked him and his family members to get t-shirt, shoes and jacket of Mustafa adding that the police wanted Mustafa’s outfits to plant evidence against him and fix him in the case.
Haneef Katipalla, Mohammed Siraj and Nawaz Ullal were present among others.
