Inter-district burglar arrested with commodities worth Rs 1.87 lakh

Mangaluru: Kankanady Town police arrested a notorious inter-district burglar from Kannur Junction and seized articles worth Rs 1.87 lakh from his possession.

The arrested has been identified as Prasad Poojary (23), son of Late Gopal Poojary, a resident of Hosabettu village in Moodbidri. Prasad has several pending cases pertaining to attempt to murder, theft and robbery in various police stations including Moodbidri, Venur, Srirangapatna among others. With the arrest of Prasad, police solved seven pending cases.

Prasad was arrested when he was loitering near Kannur junction in a suspicious manner by a team of police, headed by Kankanady Town police station inspector Jagadish, under the direction of Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil. During the interrogation, the accused confessed to committing theft from railway quarters located near Kankanady railway station, JCB showroom ‘Adwaith’ at Padil, United showroom Padil, Chowta’s gas agency in Maripalla in Bantwal among other areas. Police seized three laptops, four tab and three mobiles, camera, gold ornaments among others all costing about Rs 1.87 lakh.

The accused was remanded judicial custody, police sources informed.
