Mangaluru: We all remember those times when we would cry out for water when in school, so why not now as adults, more so when it is the duty of the authorities to supply water for all. Irregular drinking water has led to a class of complaining councilors at the recent Mangalore City Corporation meeting, which is fair as people were left without water for a matter of a week.

At least this is what the  former Deputy Mayor and councilor of Central Market ward Poornima stated at the meeting Things were worse in Bajal, where Ashraf, a resident of the place stated how water supply was irregular for a matter of two months. And one cannot suggest the use of well water here as the resident also stated water in their wells being contaminated due to a leakage in sewage network.

The residents of Bendore, which is almost the heart of the city, seem to be receiving water for just one in ten hours. This is what Naveen D’souza, leader of the opposition stated. His ward was chosen as the pilot zone to check the water supply under the Jala Siri project and this is the disappointing report he comes forward with. The Bendore pilot zone alone requires 3.2 MLD of water.

What about those in Shivabagh,. Vas Lane and the Athena Hospital area? Well, they simply claim to be fed up after the irregularity and scarcity of water which they have been facing for quite some time till now.

All this sure is a clear indication that the Jala Siri project has been a failure with officers who seem to be least bothered about getting the project completed for the good of all

This makes all this opposition and protest just, leading to an extended deadline till the 23rd of May. We hope the authorities leading the project will do something by then. Meanwhile, authorities will be holding another meeting on February 8th, to discuss and come up with a report of the ongoing Jala Siri project.
