Mangaluru: Criticising the Central Government’s reluctance to provide financial aid to the state’s flood victims, MLC Ivan D’Souza asked whether the government was dead or alive.
Accusing PM Modi and his government of negligence, Ivan said, “The union government has slashed the effective corporate tax to 25 per cent and favoured corporate companies. This move will result in a Rs 1.5 lakh crore loss to the national exchequer. Despite the fact that Karnataka has lost properties worth Rs 35,000 crores due to the floods, the government has had no time to respond to the grievances of flood victims.”
Ivan further stressed, “Though Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced Rs 10,000 as immediate compensation for flood victims, only a few people have received the amount. He also announced Rs 5000 as rent money for those victims who are forced to live in rented houses and yet, no victim has received that amount till date.”
Meanwhile, Ivan informed that around 250 Congress leaders and workers will be participating in a protest against the BJP-led state government in Belagavi on September 24. He also mentioned the possibility of staging a hunger strike against the BJP at all of the district centres in the coming days.
