Mangaluru: Taking a dig at the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in the centre, MLC Ivan D’Souza, on September 1, said that he would hold a protest against the BJP government in the centre, over high fuel price in the country.
Addressing a press meet at his office, Ivan D’ Souza said, “When UPA was in the power at the center, it had provided 1 litre petrol for Rs 53.26 though the crude oil prices were at $102.02 per barrel. Now the crude oil prices are reduced to $77.04 per barrel but the Narendra Modi-led BJP government has failed to reduce petrol or diesel prices accordingly. People have to pay Rs 78.86 for petrol and Rs 70.4 for diesel per litre.”
Ivan also alleged that the BJP government was selling the petrol and diesel to 15 countries in the world at a very low price, putting the citizens’ interest into jeopardy.
“The BJP government has increased 10% excise duty for the crude oil. Hence to create awareness among the people against the central government’s loot, I will hold a massive protest against the central government,” he added.
