Mangaluru: Jayanti Baliga, mother of slain RTI activist Vinayak Baliga breathed her last on 8th January, 2017 and with her death her only hope to see the murderers of her son being punished for the crime remained unfulfilled. However, the grieving Baliga family donated the eyes of Jayanthi Baliga and thus brought sight in to lives of two persons, who received the cornea through the transplantation.
Jayanti had gone into severe depression and was worried about the safety of other members of her family post Vinayak Baliga’s death. This would have probably taken a toll on her health since she fell unconscious from a massive brain haemorrhage on January 7th and passed away without regaining consciousness.
Being born in an orthodox family, she wanted her last rites to be performed by her only son, a duty that was however performed by her eldest son in-law.
Vinayak Baliga an RTI activist was allegedly killed by those who wanted to silence him for questioning irregularities in a number of institutions belonging to his own community.
With the noble deed of eye donation, Jayanthi Baliga continues to live to see if justice will take its course and punish the killers of Vinayak Baliga or not.
