Jeevanram Sullia appointed as first Yaksha Rangayana Director

Mangaluru: Famous artiste Jeevanram Sullia has been appointed for State Government’s Yaksha Rangayana as the first Director. The Yaksha Rangayana has been established at Karkala in Udupi District. It is the sixth Rangayana.

Since the last 30 years, Jeevanram Sullia has been working for the development of Yakshagana, and introducing new experiments. He has used his home for this art.

Indian magician Kudroli Ganesh congratulated Jeevanram Sullia and said that, Yaksha Rangayana may see good growth under his leadership, and also artistes from the State including those from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Districts will get good opportunities.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Jeevanram Sullia said that Yaksha Rangayana is the first Rangayana for Yakshagana in the State. Established by B. V. Karanth, the State has Mysuru Rangayana, Shivamogga Rangayana, Dharwad Rangayana, Kalaburagi Rangayana, and Davangere Rangayana at present. The sixth is now at Karkala, which is a matter of pride. I am elated that I have been selected as the Karkala Rangayana Director.

Further he said “Minister for Kannada and Culture Department V. Sunil Kumar is the backbone of this project. Karnataka Government has alloted over 3 acre of land for Yaksha Rangayana. Shortly the Rangayana work will start. I hope the concerned people will cooperation to deliver my responsiblities, effectively.”
