Mangaluru: The Jet Airways was ordered to pay a passenger compensation to the tune of Rs 1.72 Lakh, by the Dakshina Kannada District Consumer Redressal Forum as he missed a connecting flight from Mumbai due to a delay at the Mangaluru International Airport.

According to the order, the loss incurred by the passenger was Rs 1,02,300 as of January 3, 2017. Jet Airways was ordered to pay this amount along with an 8 percent interest, which comes up to Rs 70,000.

The complainant, one Omprakash Kayyar, who was employed at an export firm in Mombasa in Kenya, came to Mangaluru with his family on December 8, 2016. To return to Mombasa, he paid a total of Rs 2,99,529 for four tickets on January 2, 2017. Their flight was scheduled to depart from MIA at 10.30 AM on January 2, but was delayed and eventually departed at 4 PM. This resulted in the Kayyar family missing their connecting flight to Mombasa from Mumbai, forcing them to stay there for two days. Omprakash had to shell out an additional amount of Rs 1,02,300 to buy more tickets for their flight from Mumbai to Mombasa. He then filed a complaint against Jet Airways for Rs 5 lakh in damages.
