Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Swarna Vyapari Sangha took out a protest rally in the city on Wednesday, February 10, condemning the policies of the government, which are affecting them.
The jewelers took to streets pulling down shutters on their shops, responding to the nation-wide bundh called for by the Karnataka State Jewelers’ Association and All India Jewelers’ Association.
The jewelers said that the policy will affect their business as majority of the customers of small and medium jewellery showrooms are from rural areas, who often do not possess PAN cards.
They feel that the move will force businessmen to trade in an unscrupulous manner by encouraging non-billed transaction, which will result in loss for the government.
The sales personnel of various jewelry showrooms of the city were seen holding placards with messages like ‘we want Rs 2 lakh limit to be raised to Rs 10 lakh’, ‘if my customer does not have PAN card it is not my fault, ’85 per cent of people do not have PAN cards’ etc.
