Jilted lover chops teacher’s hand; kills self

Belthangady: A jilted lover allegedly chopped an Anganawady teacher’s hand before shooting dead himself. The incident took place at Mulikar in Dharmasthala on Thursday December 3.

Umesh Gowda (41), a resident of Neriya, allegedly cut-off Honnamma’s (37) hand using a sickle and later killed himself with a rifle.

According to sources, Umesh was in love with Honnamma and had proposed to her a few days ago. Though the family members of the teacher agreed to the relationship initially, they later backed off on learning that he an alcohol addict.

However, Umesh reportedly kept pestering the teacher and had also barged into her school twice. On Thursday, after school hours, he reportedly went to the school armed with a sickle and a rifle and chopped Honnamma’s hand. She somehow managed to run in and lock herself in a room. Sourcles claim that Umesh then walked a certain distance and shot himself.

Beltangady police have registered a case.
