Belthangady: Kaliya gram Panchyath set an example by distributing water tanks to 110 dalit families in the Kaliya and Nyayatarpu village limits recently.
Under the Gram Panchyath 14th finance program, each of the families were given 500 litre capacity water tanks costing Rs 1350 each. This was done to ensure that the families belonging to backward classes and tribes do not face hardship during ensuing summer. The entire scheme costing 2.58 lakhs in total was monitored by the GP president Sharath Kumar Shetty, other members and officials.
The water tanks were given away during the GP meeting held recently. Members of taluk panchyath, gram panchyath, Co-Operative society, revenue department officials and staff were present on the occasion.
