Kanachur Group announces cooperation for shelter, care centre for AIDS-affected

Mangaluru: “It is very essential to take care of the AIDS-affected children. The government has thought of establishing a shelter and care centre for which the Kanachur Group is going to cooperate,” opined the President of Kanachur Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, U Kanachur Monu, here on Saturday, December 1.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Kanachur Medical College Hospital and Research Centre on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2018, Monu said, “We have collected around Rs 45 Lakh towards the shelter and care centre for the AIDS-affected children with an aim of constructing our own building.”

“We are hopeful that the Revenue Department will allocate a suitable land in the heart of the city for this purpose and thereby help us construct a well-equipped shelter and care centre for the affected, very soon”, he added.

He also said, “It is the responsibility of the medical institutions to create awareness regarding such ailments and Kanachur is in the forefront in organising them.”

Director of Kanachur Group Abdul Rahiman said, “All the procedures suitable and necessary for the HIV test are available in our hospital. Till date, in our screening centre, 4392 people have been tested, among whom 10 males and 8 females are HIV positive.”

“We are celebrating this day on the account of World Health Organization’s (WHO) awareness campaign. The Kanachur Medical College students have enacted street plays as part of the campaign in Kotekar and Mudipu. The video shot on the same will have positive impact on the society and it will be screened to the public,” he added.

On the occasion, the students who created short films on HIV awareness, were felicitated.

K G Kiran, Associate Professor of Department of Community Medicine, Kanachur Medical College, Dr. Rohan Monis, Chief Administrative Medical Officer at Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, Hemalatha, Principal of Kanachur P U College and others were present.
