Udupi: A 35-year-old youth from Karkala was arrested in connection with the murder of a 54-year-old woman named Florine at her residence in Ayyappanagar – Kukkundoor Karkala on Sunday, July 8.
The arrested accused is Mohammed Riyaz. He is residing at Ullal at his wife’s residence.
According to the police, accused was arrested from Panvel, Railway Station in Mumbai, while he was returning from Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan.
Mohammed Riyaz, who was into cable business in UAE returned to his native few years ago. Riyaz then became friends with Florine over Facebook and over the time Riyaz had given some money to Florine. A few days before her murder, Riyaz even came to Florine’s home and stayed with her. It is suspected that conflict over money may have led to the murder on July 8. He fled with all her valuables and left to Ajmer Dargha.
Accused has been produced to the court and was sent to police custody for five days.
Over the past six years, Florine was living separately from her husband after the duo had differences in their relationship. Her husband is residing at Hukratte in Mala, Karkala.
