Kasargod: An oil tanker with a resident of Kasargod on board was hijacked by the pirates off African coast, according to the information received by family members.
Sri Unni (25), a resident of Uduma Perale is among the 20 people in the hijacked tanker. The pirates have cut off the communication links and the authorities are unable to get any further information on the missing crew and support staff.
The Panama registered tanker named Marine Express was operating from Mumbai centre.
Sri Unni had last communicated with his family on January 31 at 3 PM and after that the communication links were severed, confirmed company officials managing the oil tanker.
Sri Unni, employed in the catering department of the oil tanker last visited his native village a month ago and returned to duty after a short holiday.
A pall of gloom has surrounded the residence of Sri Unni as the family is unable to communicate with him.
