Kasargod returns to normalcy after witnessing episodes of violence

Kasargod: The hartal in Kasargod organised on Thursday was total and the day was marred by some brutal attacks on youth. However, by evening, the region wore a normal look.

Several persons were attacked on Thursday late night by miscreants and many have also suffered injuries. Following this incident, prohibitory orders were slammed in Manjeshwar to ensure that such episodes do not repeat.

The bundh was announced in the backdrop of the Sabarimala issue, after two women entered the hilltop shrine, which had been closed for women in reproductive age.

While Guruprasad (23) and his friend Kiran Kumar (40) were attacked by bike-borne miscreants at Kadambar, Vasanth was attacked near Shiriya. Kareem from Bayar and Imthiyaz from Gandhinagar too were attacked by miscreants when they questioned a few individuals’ attempt to block the road. All of them have been rushed to Mangaluru for treatment. Charan is the person who suffered injuries in his bid to escape an attack.

The incidents took place despite the Deputy Commissioner clearly warning the mischief mongers of severe punishment. The ones supporting the bundh have vandalised as many as 30 shops and vehicles.

Over ten persons have been detained in connection to the violence here.
