Mangaluru: Even though the state government has permitted places of worship to open to the public from June 8, the famous Kateel Durgaparameshwari temple has decided to open its doors only after July 1. Meanwhile, the temple is initiating an online booking system for the devotees to pay to visit the temple.

A website has been designed for online booking and booking will be made for free. As per the plan, a certain time fixed for devotees to visit the temple.

It is said that if the online booking system materialises, the Kateel temple will be the first temple in the state to start this system. It can be noted that an online booking system is followed at the Tirupathi Venkateswara Temple in Andhra Pradesh.

As there is a shortage of space at the Kateel temple, the temple management board has decided to open the doors to the visitors only after July 1, instead of June 8. If the devotees are allowed to visit from June 8, maintaining social distance will be a big challenge for the temple. Hence, this decision was taken, temple priest Harinarayana Asranna informed.

It can also be noted that even though the temple has been closed so far, devotees have been visiting the temple and praying outside. Over 5000 devotees had visited the temple on June 5, sources from the temple informed.
