Mangaluru: The very first general session of the city corporation held after Kavita Sanil became the Mayor of the city, witnessed an uproar with one of the leaders within the party itself alleging the Mayor of dictatorial behaviour.
The issue began when chairperson of standing committee on health, education and social justice, Nagaveni aired her grudge that the Mayor had not sought her permission and had also overlooked to invite her to a city corporation programme to be held in the city tomorrow, March 31 which happened to be in her jurisdictional department and sat in protest in front of Mayor’s chamber.
The programme in question is being organized to distribute facilities to beneficiaries under various government schemes and will be attended by District-in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai.
Kavitha tried to pacify Nagaveni by clarifying that she had no ill-intent and that the programme she was talking about had been slated to be held during the period the previous chairperson of the committee. However, owing to health issues of Ramanath Rai the same had to be postponed to tomorrow.
Ironically, Nagaveni’s name is mentioned as a chief guest with her current designation in the programme schedule.
This instance makes it evident that a tiff has been growing within the Congress cadres itself who were seen yelling at each other during the session today. Meanwhile, Nagaveni’s protest also got support from the opposition BJP Councillors who were quick to grasp the opportunity.
