Mangaluru: The Wenlock district hospital has won the second place in the illustrious ‘Kayakalpa (rejuvenation)’ award from the central government for excellence by hospitals in all departments.

Dr Rajeshwari Devi H R, superintendent of the hospital will be receiving the award from the union health minister at a function in New Delhi.

All the district hospitals in the country were in the race for the ‘Kayakalpa’ award, which had been instituted under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The ‘Kayakalpa’ scheme had been implemented in 20 district hospitals in the state during the year 2015-16.  As per requirement, the district level Kayakalpa award nomination committee was headed by the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district.

The medical officers and administration formed the an internal ‘Kayakalpa’ committee, in a bid to achieve the award. The intra-district committee visited the hospital without prior intimation.

The state level external evaluation committee which paid a surprise visit to the hospital on September 28, 2015 to verify the functioning of all the departments, submitted its report to National Arogya Abhiyan Committee. The hospital had to be satisfied with the second spot, as they lost a couple of marks on the working of the hospital from an old building.
