Mangaluru: The Konkani Cultural Organisation (KCO), in continuation of its commendable service, on Sunday, August 13 distributed scholarship to students and financial assistance to NGOs in co-ordination with Samanvaya Mangaluru at Joseph’s Seminary Centenary.
Praising the services of the Konkani Cultural organization after inaugurating the event, Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza, said KCO founder President Leo Rodrigues has touched several lives through his service and his service gains all the more meaning because he has given without any expectation.
Quoting from the Bible, the Bishop said, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me, said Jesus. “This association is helping people irrespective of caste, religion and creed. Service is it’s only motto. In this world there are many rich people but only a few come forward to help others,” said the Bishop calling upon the beneficiary students to remember the help of the KCO and continue the spirit of service when they reach a good position.
A total of 61 students received the scholarship while NGOs like White Doves, Prashanth Nivas, Sneha Sadhan, Jeevanand Trust, Saanidhiya and Jivanidhi Trust received financial aid.
In his address Founder president of Leo Rodrigues thanked Samanvaya director Fr Ronald Cutinho and Fr Pius for their support to the KCO and said that students should always stand for truth.
Narrating his own experiences of hardships, he said that attitude and behaviour of the youth is important. “The students who fight poverty and go on to reach a good position must always look back to help the needy. This time the KCO has doubled the scholarship amount as the people are coming forward to help for the noble cause,”Rodriguez said.
KCO president Dolphy Vaz welcomed the gathering. Treasurer Valerian Dalmaida in vote of thanks asked students to be sincere and truthful and work with responsibility.
Representatives from NGOs, Corrine Rasquina, Sister Sylvia, Rev Fr Thomas , Sister Jaansi, Vasanth Kumar Shetty, Haisin Pinto were present.
Trustees Micheal D’silva, Jerry D’Mello, Vice President Franklin D’Cunha and others were present.
