Keep aside differences, stay united: Dist in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Sunday, January 26 called upon people to stay united, keeping aside all the differences.

Addressing the gathering after hoisting Indian tri-colour flag during the district-level Republic Day celebration at Nehru Maidan he said, ” we should respect all religions and accept the essence of it. We must keep aside the difference of caste, creed, colour etc. We should construct a strong nation.”

Informing about the pro-people programmes of government, Kota said, “state government has waived off short-term crop loans of farmers to the tune of Rs 52,647 lakh and over 67,620 farmers from Dakshina Kannada district have received benefits of the same. Fishermen have been  provided credit cards.”

As there was election code of conduct during Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) election, the district administration had not announced the list of district-level Rajyotsava awardees. As the list was announced only a day before the R-Day celebration, a total of 32 achievers from different fields were presented with Rajyotsava awards on the occasion. Harekala Hajabba, who was selected for Padma Shri award was also felicitated on the occasion.

A total of 10 government employees like District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao, labour officer Wilma Elizabeth Tauro, Deputy Tahasildar ( Revenue Dpt) Vathsala, Panchayat Development Officer B Uggappa Mulya, assistant engineer in Minor Irrigation Department Anand S Bhanjan, nurse Sumangala, Shirastedar Prakash Naik, SDA Rathnakar Kottary, village accountant Kumaraswamy and senior driver ( Agriculture Department) M Devadas were presented ‘Sarvothama’ award on the occasion.

As many as 18 teams including District Armed Reserve police, traffic police, NCC Navy, NCC Airwing,  Bharath Sevadal, Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and others took part in the parade. NCC Air wing Senior team’s overall performance helped them bag first place and NCC Army senior team bagged second place in the parade. Later, cultural programmes by students from different schools enthralled the audience. 

Vintage car, mobike show

As part of the celebration vintage car and motorcycles were exhibited at the ground. Over 22 old cars and 23 bikes were exhibited in the show. 

Deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Roopa M J,  Inspector General of Police J Arun Chakravarthy, Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha, MLAs UT Khader, Vedavyasa Kamath, and Dr Y Bharath Shetty, MLCs Bhojegowda and Ivan D’Souza, Tulu Sahitya Academy President Dayananda Kattalsar, DK Zilla Panchayat president Meenaskhi Shanthigodu, CEO Dr Selvamani R and others were present.
