Kasaragod: Kerala Governor P Sathasivam inaugurated the Sathya Sai Trust built “Rehabilitation Village” to house the endosulfan affected victims at Periya village on April 29.
Speaking on the occasion, the former chief justice of Supreme Court lamented over the catastrophic effect of endosulfan on a section of the population in Kerala, which has highest literacy rate in the country. The dangerous pesticide banned in over 80 countries has caused immense damage to humanity as well as living organisms, Sathasivam said and emphasised on the need for awareness to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
He lauded the efforts of Sathya Sai Trust to rehabilitate affected victims in the land allotted by the government under a programme titled “LIFE.”
In all, 36 houses were constructed in 5.5 acres of government allotted land and the new township has children’s park, water tank, swimming pool, amphitheatre, Ayush Centre and other amenities to offer little comforts to the affected victims and their care takers.
Kanhangad MLA E Chandrashekaran presided.
Elected representatives, various party members, Sathya Sai Trust office bearers, ZP members and others were present on the occasion.
