Mangaluru: Close on the heels of RSS Head Honcho Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat stating that temples visited by Minister for Food and Civil Supplies UT Khader must be cleansed, the latter has retorted by questioning the very culture of Dr Bhat.

Addressing a news conference on Monday, April 9, Khader said that people who respect the culture of this country and love this nation will not use such words.

“The essence of this is country is multi-cultural, its unity and its diversity,” he said adding that he still gets invitations from various Hindu religious centers, not just in his own constituency, but from various neighbouring constituencies.

“My culture is to treat everyone equally, without any discrimination. That is the upbringing I have received from my parents and this culture of mine is an integral part of me,” he said.

Cattle theft issue

Speaking about the indefinite hunger stir started by TG Jayaram Bhat in Kairangala against growing instances of cattle theft, Khader said that he has requested Home Minister to form Special Investigation Team to probe into the matter.

“I do not support such illegal activities,” he said calling upon the Centre to ban cattle slaughter in the whole country, leaving no scope for the BJP to give political colours to the cases.

Taking a dig at the union government, Khader said that while the Congress was responsible for the green and the white revolution, the BJP has to its credit the fame of bringing in Pink revolution, under which states like Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat are ranking high in beef exports.

Awareness on Code of Conduct

With the Minister facing flak from general public recently during SKSSF Samastha Maha Sammelana event in his own constituency on April 7, he said that he has urged the Election Commission to hold awareness workshop on election Model Code of Conduct for religious leaders and youth organizations. It may be recalled that several raged youth had gheraoed the Minister at the event claiming that the Minister could not stop the election officials from pulling down the publicity material put up for the event. The Minister said that awareness on the code of conduct was a must.
