Mangaluru: The Government Veterinary College and Hospital in Koila, about 60 kilometres from here, is expected to be completed in December. The project, which began in 2016 was delayed for more than three years due to a lack of funds, the Covid-19 pandemic, and other reasons.
The then Chief Minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda had announced the college in his 2012-13 budget. The foundation stone for the 247-acre state-of-the-art facility was laid in October 2016, with construction expected to be completed by 2018. This would be the seventh veterinary hospital in the State of Karnataka.
According to the sources, the initial phase will have the college building, hospital, guest house, and two hostels. The hostels can accomodate144 inmates each.
Bengaluru, Hassan, Shivamogga, Gadaga, and Bidar are the State’s five veterinary colleges at present. Two more now would come up in Athani including Koila.
