Bantwal: It was a big day for Sri Durga Friends’ Club as a boy donned his school uniform on Monday. The faces of the Club members beamed with contentment of doing something worthwhile. A little boy who remained away from the portals of school, after being beaten by a local school teacher agreed to return to the school. Thanks to the perseverance of the Club members.
Ganesh, a resident of Moodanadugodu Koraga colony and an eighth standard student of Daddalakadu Government Higher Primary School had been evading school. When the school teachers had probed, he had told that he was unwell and hence he was not coming back to school.
When Sri Durga Friends’ Club adopted the school, Club President Prakash Anchan started working on identifying issues pertaining to the school and sensed that one particular Koraga student had remained outside the portals of the school. Soon, the members led by Anchan reached the boy’s home and tried to find out the reason behind Ganesh staying away from school. When the Club members took him into confidence, he opened up and revealed the true reason.
Ill-health was only a shield, the actual reason was that Ganesh was scared of being beaten up by a particular teacher in the school. Striking an amicable way out, Durga Friends’ Club managed to convince the boy to come back to school.
Now, with this success, the Club members intend to identify the children who have remained outside the school in the village, find the reasons out and convince them to return to school.
Kudos to the Friends’ Club, which is truly turning out to be a friend to students who have dropped out of school for various reasons.
