Mangaluru: Minister for Muzrai, Fisheries and Port Kota Srinivas Poojary cautioned action against those who indulge in fishing through bull trawling and using lights.
Addressing the reporters here on Sunday, October 6, Poojary said that the ban on fishing through bull trawling and using lights is already existing in the state and it will be continued in coming days also. “However, some fishermen are still engaging in fishing through bull trawling and also using lights, which has affected the livelihood of those who carry out traditional fishing. The traditional fishermen’s association has already submitted a memorandum in this regard and sought action against those who violate the norms. The government is committed to taking action against such law offenders”, he said.
Flood-victims need not worry
Meanwhile, Kota informed that the government was committed to providing compensation of Rs 5 lakh for those victims who lost their house completely during the recent flood. The compensation declared by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, will be provided properly to all the flood victims of Dakshina Kannada district. Victims need not be worried in this regard, he said.
Kota also informed that the government would undertake necessary arrangements to remove the soil accumulated in several places in the district due to landslide, owing to the recent flood.
