Mangaluru: Mangaluru’s shock of May 29 is set to make a comeback, as the meteorological department has forecasted likely heavy rainfall from June 7 onwards and floods from Jun 10 onwards as the Monsoon season is almost upon us.

A depression over the Arabian Sea was the cause of unusual rainfall on Tuesday, May 29, resulting in the flooding of many regions in Mangaluru city. Property damage ran into crores of rupees and the loss of lives cannot be assigned a figure. A week after the events of Tuesday, the people who were affected are still scraping their lives back together.

The coastal regions of Karnataka, Kerala, Goa and Konkan regions, have received warnings of heavy rainfall and flooding from the Indian meteorological department.

M Rajeevan, Secretary in the department of earth sciences has warned that post June 7, the intensity of the rainfall is likely to increase and that floods are expected in the coastal regions of Kerala and Karnataka after June 10.

The monsoon seems to have gotten an early start in Kerala seeing that the state started receiving its quota of the rainy season on May 29, resulting in early rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Bengal.
