Mangaluru: The results of DNA tests in connection with a complaint of an ‘exchange of the newborn’ during discharge at Government Lady Goschen Hospital have been received by the police.
A DNA test conducted in a Hyderabad laboratory confirmed that the complainant, Mustafa, had fathered the male child, who is now no more.
Mustafa, a resident of Koteshwara, claimed that his pregnant wife Amreen was admitted to the city’s Government Lady Goschen Hospital for delivery on September 27. After delivery, the hospital staff told Mustafa that it was a newborn girl at the time. The baby was kept in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit for 18 days after developing health issues.
After 18 days, the parents decided to take the baby to a Brahmavar hospital for further treatment. The parents, on the other hand, were shocked when the doctors revealed that the newborn was a boy. Based on the doctors’ conflicting reports, the couple suspected that the baby was exchanged after birth.
Dr. Durgaprasad M. R., the Medical Superintendent of Lady Goschen Hospital, has denied the allegations of baby swapping and emphasised that it was just a clerical error on the hospital’s part.
