Mangaluru: “Tulu language should be taught academically in schools and colleges, in order to include it in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Pre University Board should take all measures to include Tulu language as an optional subject in PUC,” said Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President A C Bhandary, on Monday, February 18.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating ‘Tulu Parba’ organised by ‘Tulu Koota’ of St Aloysius College in association with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy at LCRI Hall in St Aloysius College. Bhandary said, “a total of 417 students have taken Tulu language as the optional subject in SSLC examination during 2017-18 academic year in DK district and all students cleared the exam, scoring distinction. As many as 620 SSLC students would write exam this year also. If students in schools and colleges are taught Tulu language academically, it would help to develop our language and culture. This would also help us include the beautiful language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.”
Bhandary also informed that the Mangaluru University has consented to introduce Tulu language as the optional subject in degree education. “All preparations have been done including syllabus and students who are pursuing graduation in Mangaluru University can take Tulu language as an optional subject from next academic year “, he informed.
Tulu film actor Bhojaraj Vamanjoor and Zee Kannada’s popular show drama junior’s winner Chitrali were felicitated on the occasion. Accepting the honour, Bhojaraj asked the students to explore their hidden talents. Child artist Chithrali enthralled the audience through her dialogues.
Tulu Koota president Rashmi Amin welcomed the gathering. Principal Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis presided over the programme. Kannada Sahitya Academy former state president Harikrishna Punaroor, Tulu Sahitya Academy convener Durga Menon among others were present.
