Liquor turns sour for Anangoor peevots

Kasaragod: The liquor freaks of Kasaragod were in for a rude shock when their improving prospects were mercilessly blocked by the other members of the public. An attempt of the state-owned corporation to start a new liquor outlet in a residential area at Anangoor on the outskirts of the city was foiled.

The state owned Beverages limited had made all arrangement to open a new outlet on October 26 in the residential area but had not foreseen the events in store. When the consignment-laden truck arrived, people and activists belonging to anti-liquor movement protested vehemently and forced the truck to leave the premises without unloading the consignment.

The outlet was shifted from its earlier location to this area whereas the second outlet on Anangoor National Highway too had been moved to a different location recently.

The protestors were led by A Satheeshan, Jayanth Kumar, P Ramesh and Sharath Kumar, representing anti-liquor movement.

Police presence prevented untoward incidents as residents and activists rejoiced over their success.
