Mangaluru: The Moodbidri Police arrested two persons who allegedly attempted to rape a high school student on Monday, October 1.
The arrested have been identified as Hanumanthappa (24) and his friend Anand (22), both residents of Kushtagi taluk in Koppala district. According to the police sources, the girl was returning from the school by walk on Moodayikadu-Jangadabettu road on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, the accused came in a motorcycle and waylaid her, pulled her hand and attempted to rape her. Immediately, the victim screamed for help and tried to escape from them. On hearing this, her relatives rushed to the spot and the accused fled the scene. However, the locals in the area nabbed them and handed them over to the police.
Moodbidri Police have registered a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and are investigating.
