Mangaluru: Owing to the Covid pandemic, the State has ordered for a curtailed celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi festival, especially in districts where the test positivity rate (TPR) is close to two per cent. Hence celebrations in Mangaluru City is low-key this year too.
Traditionally, many organisations in the City have been celebrating it with pomp and gaiety. However, like last year this year too the public celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi has been limited to traditional rituals with no grandeur and huge gathering of devotees. The installation and rituals at one of the most revered Ganesha idols during Chauthi celebrations in Sanghanikethan too is subdued.
This auspicious Hindu festival which is usually celebrated for a period of 10 days, has been restricted to only 3 days this year. The festival is celebrated in the Bhadra month as per the Hindu calendar which generally falls in mid-August to September. It marks the birthday of the beloved elephant-headed Lord Ganesha.
Ganesha is known as the God of wealth, sciences, knowledge, wisdom and prosperity, and that’s why most Hindus remember him and seek his blessings before starting any important work. Lord Ganesh is known by 108 different names like Gajanana, Vinayaka, Vighnaharta among others.
This festival is celebrated with great devotion and joy by Hindus throughout the world. In India, it is majorly celebrated in states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana apart from Karnataka.
