Malavalli: An outing with friends turned fatal for a youth from Mangaluru as he was sucked into a whirlpool on Cauvery River near Muthathi on April 9.
Prashanth Shetty (24), employed as Manager at Quest Retail Private Limited is the deceased.
Prashanth had gone to Bengaluru to meet his friends. Collectively 13 of them on a picnic trail decided to go for a swim in Cauvery River to beat the summer heat . The group reportedly visited a temple nearby before venturing into the river.
Prashanth swam in the river initially and then sat on a rock at the centre of the river to rest for a while. When he decided to swim towards the river bank, he was unfortunately sucked in by the deadly whirlpool and died instantly.
Friends and others screamed for help to rescue Prashanth in danger. Expert divers swung into action immediately and managed only to extract the body from the depths of the river.
The body has been shifted to government hospital in Malavalli for autopsy.
Sub Inspector Sridhar registered a case and further investigation is in progress.
