Mangaluru: M Venkatesh will be taking charge as the Managing Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) from June 1. He was appointed as the Director (Refinery) of MRPL by the Union Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas on January 7, 2015.
Venkatesh previously served in the capacity of Group General Manager in-charge of the Refinery at MRPL. He had joined the MRPL as a Deputy Manager in the Technical Services department in 1994.
He also serves on the board of Shell MRPL Aviation Fuels and Services Ltd, Petronet MHB Ltd and ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd.
A chemical engineer from the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) in Manipal, Karnataka, Venkatesh started as a trainee in the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. in 1988. He later moved on to the Indian Oil Mathura Refinery and then the Guwahati Refinery.
Venkatesh then joined the MRPL in the year 1994 and has been instrumental in the various phases of growth of the refinery. The recently completed Rs 15000 Crore Phase III Upgradation and Expansion Project is a testament to his capability.
He also played a strategic role in the integration of MRPL and ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd.
