Madrasa teacher found murdered; Muslim League calls for bandh

Kasargod: A madrasa teacher was found murdered here at Halechoori in Battampare in the outskirts of the city on Tuesday, March 21 early morning.

The dead body of the deceased, Riyaz (34) a native of Madikeri was found in a pool of blood with his throat slit in the apartment provided to him by the mosque.

Riyaz was working as a teacher at the Ijjattul Islam Madrassa located next to Muhayuddin Jumma Masjid at Halechoori for the last nine years.

On the fateful night of March 21, Khateeb and Abdul Azeez who reside in rooms adjacent to Riyaz heard loud cries at around 12.15 am. While Azeez ventured out to inspect the cause of the cries stones were hurled at him and he thus closed the door of his room. Thereafter, Khateeb went inside the mosque through an internal route and alerted the locals over the mike at the mosque. On reaching the spot the locals found Riyaz dead. His body was sent to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital for postmortem.

It is believed that two persons were involved in the act and had used a motorbike to arrive and flee from the scene.

A team of police personnel led by deputy superintendent of police, V. Sukumaran and Circle Inspector Abdul Rahman under guidance of Northern range additional deputy inspector general of police, Rajesh Diwan, and inspector general of police, Mahipal Yadav reached the spot and commenced the investigations as also have taken CCTV footage from nearby areas. Meanwhile an alert has been given at all police stations to lookout for the accused and prevent them from escaping from the state.

A call for bandh has been given by the Muslim League to protest the killing on Tuesday, March 21 from 6 am to 6 pm within Kasargod assembly constituency.
