Mangaluru: A corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative undertaken by the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) will fund the construction of an Anganwadi, aimed to benefit children belonging to the SC/ST, OBC and other minority classes as well as those hailing from BPL families, at Malavoor here.
The project is part of the Integrated Child Development Services programme, to combat child hunger and malnutrition, in accordance with the CSR policy followed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The Anganwadi is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 15.64 lakh. Airport director V V Rao handed over the cheque for the amount to the president of Malavoor gram panchayat during a function held by the panchayat at their office on August 10.
The work will be carried out by the Panchayat Raj’s engineering division in a time-bound manner. The gram panchayat president will be responsible for the future maintenance of the facility.
