Male elephant found dead in Sampaje reserve forest area

Sullia: A male elephant aged about 25 years was found dead in Sampaje reserve forest area on February 9.

It is suspected that the elephant might have died due to a fight within the herd as the carcass of the elephant has deep injuries on the stomach and neck. The dead elephant which was about seven feet in height had its one metre long two tusks intact.

Keelarumoole of Sampaje reserve forest has been the favourite spot of the pachyderms of late due to moist conditions. This is the second death of an elephant in this area over the last one month.

Post-mortem will be conducted on the carcass.
