Mangaluru: The Mumbai Police have arrested Bajarang Dal activist Sunil Pumpwell, on charges of abduction.

Sunil, an auto driver by profession, has been accused of abducting a Kerala woman who allegedly eloped with a Muslim man.

Reportedly, Reshma, a 23-yea-old studying in a private college in Mangaluru, was married to Mohammed Iqbal Choudhary, a resident of Mumbai.

A saffron outfit termed the incident as a case of ‘Love Jihad’ and submitted a memorandum to Defense Minister Nirmala Seetharaman during her recent visit to Mangaluru on December 29, asking her to intervene in the issue.

Sunil was arrested by the police on January 18, after Iqbal registered a case in a Mumbai police station and filed a habeaus corpus petition in the Mumbai High Court to trace Reshma.

The arrested accused is alleged to have brought the girl and her parents from Mumbai to Mangaluru in a four-wheeler during the second week of December.

The girl, a daughter of a prominent leader of a Hindutva group, was traced by the Mumbai police to a rented house in Kasargod, her home town.
