Man gets 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping minor girl

Mangaluru: The II Additional District and Sessions Court and POCSO special court have convicted a 44-year-old person with 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000, in a rape case of a minor girl, on Friday, February 22.

The convicted is Chandrakanth, a resident of Car Street. According to the charge sheet filed at Women Police station, Pandeshwar, the accused Chandrakanth and the 11-year-old victim, who is from Soraba taluk, are relatives. The victim had been to accused Chandrakanth’s home, which is located near Gowri Mutt, Car Street on May 2, 2018. Misusing the situation, Chandrakanth had sexual intercourse with the victim girl on the same night.

When the incident came to light, accused Chandrakanth’s wife filed a complaint at Women’s Police station against her husband. The charge sheet was filed by Women Police Station Inspector Kalavathi, under IPC 376 and Section 6 of POCSO Act. When the case came to hearing at II Additional District and Sessions Court and Special Court, Judge Pallavi B R upheld the arguments of special public prosecutor C Venkatramana Swamy and convicted Chandrakanth with 10 years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000.

A sum of Rs 9,000 from the penalty amount would be paid to the victim, who is also eligible to get compensation from the District Legal Services Authority, the Judge ruled.
